Katsubi, Sydney CBD (NOW CLOSED)

FOOD COURT EATS. Katsubi is a food court eatery in Pitt St Mall. It's got some hard competition nearby so I wonder how Katsubi will go in time.
Katsubi is meant to be a healthy take away option. I get lured in by samples at the front where their fried chicken is quite tasty. They have a dish where you can go through three steps. First you choose your rice, secondly you choose a number of vegetables or salad ingredients, then you top this off with your choice of sauces and finally you top this off with a hot protein choice.

For me, it resembles something similar to the Korean Dish of bibimbap. The dish of your choice will cost you about $10. I was happy to try it out and see what sort of lunch it got me. Sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed with choice and take a bit of time to choose. For the first step, I choose brown rice, secondly I choose a random mix of tomatoes, corn, cabbage and other salad ingredients, thirdly, I ask what is a good sauce to choose and the staff tell me terakyi sauce or chilli sauce. I agree with his options and then for the hot option, I choose the salt and pepper squid. Then taaa ddaa, below is my dish.

The dish is predominantely rice and squid so I'm not sure how healthy this actually is but it's quite nice. The squid is nice and crunchy and the sauces do combine well together. My friend goes through the same steps and ends up with a Brown rice, heavily tainted with bean sprouts and chicken katsu. He thinks the dish is nice.

Overall, I think it's worthwhile trying Katsubi if you want a high degree of control and choice into a basic rice based dish. With so many other options in the Pitt St Mall area, Katsubi will have to get a bit more creative to get repeat business. I'm not sure if this rice based option is enough to lure me back. I need more variety in a menu and I need something that will capture my tastebuds.  The stellar Chat Thai always has a heavy stream of customers lining up for their food which is nearby and is distracting
