Holy Duck - New winter dinner menu, Chippendale

Have you been to Kensington St? There's so many great places including the venue Holy Duck which is an Asian Fusion restaurant and is a sister restaurant to Chef's Gallery.  I recently head here to check out their new winter menu.

From the name, as you might expect a signature duck dish. Holy Duck has a few points of difference, firstly it's Asian fusion so you'll also see some variations from traditional Chinese Duck.

The signature is actually the crispy duck that is served up with steamed mandarin pancakes, hoisin sauce, cucumber and shallots. All the traditional flavours are there with your traditional duck pancake except there's a bit more crunch from the duck which I quite like. I actually prefer this over the traditional.

Holy Duck also has some new winter menu including the above spanner crab dish with salmon roe, a side salad made of rocket, granny smith apple and a seasoned seaweed. The crab dish is refreshing to eat and a great lighter dish to accompany a heavier duck dish.

There's also the rice balls which are crispy on the outside and is topped with crispy duck and salad. It's like an Asian arancini ball that with that nice and refreshing crunch from the salad and duck flavours.

If you are looking for the more traditional meats then you won't be disappointed - it's still on the menu. You could try the Roast and BBQ meats platter which has traditional duck,  sticky BBQ char siu pork and crackling roast pork belly. I personally really enjoy the sticky BBQ char siu pork as it's mildly sweet and full flavoured.

My favourite dish of the night is the Roast Beef Ribs with jalapeno puree with green shallot kim chi and soy glaze. The hero of this dish is definitely jalapeno puree which is spicy but has a depth of flavour that keeps you wanting more. I end up also eating this with the next dish.

Above is the Roast Holy Duck fried rice with asparagus and mustard seeds. It's a modern twist to the traditional favourite with the addition of the asparagus which adds a new texture and the mustard seeds add additional pop and flavours. That mustard seed is really pleasantly wonderful as I really like traditional fried rice but I must say I enjoy this modern adaptation (especially when I smear some of the jalapeno puree from the above dish).

A nice pairing to the fried rice may be the crispy whole chicken with ginger, coriander, shallot, garlic, chilli and a sweet and sour sauce. I am starting to get full so I save some stomach room.

Then there's the King Prawn on ee-fu noodles cooked in lobster bisque, garnished with butter, ginger and shallots and asparagus. This dish is full of seafood flavours in that bisque so you'll love the noodles if you love seafood flavours. I love this dish.

Summary: So for a winter feast, check out Holy Duck's new winter dinner menu. My favourites on the new menu are their signature crispy duck, Roast Beef Ribs with jalapeno puree and the King Prawn noodles. That jalapeno puree is pure heaven.
