Osaka Bar, Potts Point

Osaka Bar has a nice relaxing decore, perfect for a first date. Osaka Bar has special dishes that you can't typically get at other Japanese Restaurants. That's because Osaka Bar specialises in Osaka food and has a large range of sake.

I order the Suntory beer ($8.5 on tap, below) which according to Owner, Kazu is more popular than Asahi in Japan at the moment and some edamame ($5.50).  Friendly faced Owner, Kazu (photo above) is very smiley and is quite proud of the sakes available at Osaka Bar. Osaka Bar opened in April 2015 but has a steady stream of customers and by 7pm, the place is packed. Make a reservation if you can't get there early.

I'd suggest a few dishes are ordered to be shared, as they are tapas sized. The popcorn prawn ($9.5) is hard to resist. The prawn is in a light mayonnaise with a hint of spice.

If you love some deep fried food then you're in luck as there is a whole page of deep fried skewer sticks (Kushi Katsu). I love a bit of crunch and tried the mince cutlet skewer ($2.5, below of two balls) and the potato croquette ($2.5, below for 3 balls). Definitely worth ordering a few dishes. If you are feeling really naughty, order the camembert cheese deep fried ($5).

For something a bit different, I also ordered the Eggplant and Duck Gratin ($8.5, below) which is dice cut egg plant and duck breast covered in a cheese sauce. It's quite nice if you are a fan of cheese. The pieces of egg plant and duck are sporadically spread out amongst the cheese.

If you are a Washoku lover member, you can get two free takoyaki balls when you dine at Osaka Bar. Love freebies!!! I loved the takoyaki balls, definitely order some!

The Tonpei-Yaki is the Osaka Style Pork Omelette ($9.5) above so if you are a fan of eggs then definitely give this a try. It wasn't my favourite dish but you may love omelettes more than me.

Below is the Pressed Sushi Sandwich Osaka Style - Salmon Avocado at $14.5. The sushi is rectangular and is special as it has no vinegar in the rice so you can taste more of the raw ingredients. The Salmon Avocado Osaks Sushi had spicy mayonnaise, avocado and lemon, chive hiding in the rice and packs a nice tasty chili hit when you bite into it.

The must order dish for me is the Grilled Wagyu at $9.5 (below). It was perfectly cooked and really just completed the meal for me. For Sake Lovers, I cannot even begin to tell you about the range at Osaka Bar. Check out the photo below which has a snip it of all the sakes. Ask the waiters/waitresses for sake recommendations!
