I attended a relaunch of the Bar Surry Hills and Italian Kitchen about a year ago. At the launch the food was great, the atmosphere was buzzing and staff were friendly. I came back for a quick drink and snack to see if much has changed since I attended the launch.
When I got there, there was a mix of business folks and a few patrons staying at the Rydges, It still attracts a slightly older crowd which really contrasts with the audience across the road at Chur Burger. It was quite laid back but with some atmosphere. Perfect for a drink where you can actually hear one another.
I settled for a glass of shiraz and ordered the Arancini ($9 for 5 balls). The Arancini was a bit different compared to the year prior. They were slightly smaller and the sauce was mayo-like compared to cheesy at the launch. However the Arancini was still tasty with tasty melted cheese. You might have to order a few more snacks because the balls were roughly the size of a a 50c coin.
I'd definitely come back for a casual drink. It's a nice venue. I may have to come back to see how the rest of the menu fares against the launch.
