The weekend and sunshine have arrived, and what better way to start the weekend than a sunny drive south to Henrys Cronulla for lunch. Henrys Cronulla offers contemporary sharing plates and cocktails in a fresh alfresco setting.
Guest writers Melle and Flick settle into extra cushy lounge chairs at Henrys Cronulla, and start the weekend with a refreshing round of cocktails. Melle enjoys the tangy zing of the tropical Passiona ($9) with pineapple, soda water and lime juice. Flick opts for the Watermelody ($19) which has the sweetness of the watermelon and the heat from the Tequila, though was a tad too tart from the aperol and lemon juice for her liking.
The Henry's Cronulla Kingfish ($20) with jalopeno sauce and pickled cucumber caught our eye on the sharing menu, though on the plate it was simply stunning! The delicate rice crackers and nori seaweed powder made the dish
The cassava chips with a banana ketchup ($8) were a bit heavier than normal chips though with lots of crunch factor and a creamy spicy ketchup that had us going back for more. Good work Henrys Cronulla.
The Prawn and Scallop ‘Fettuccine’ with flying fish roe ($23) was the favourite dish of the day for us at Henrys Cronulla. Innovative dish with pasta-like strands, some made from prawn and others scallop, this tasted amazing with the pop of the fish roe to add texture. We savoured each strand to truly enjoy the surprise of whether it was a scallop or prawn.
Flick is a huge fan of lamb, thus we were psyched it was on the specials menu. The spiced French rack of lamb ($48) is a generous portion of 8 tender cutlets with quinoa, sheeps labneh, pomegranate and pepita seeds which added a nice sweetness and crunch.
Our waiter at Henrys Cronulla is equally passionate about food and highly recommended the Cucumber salad ($10), which paired with the lamb dish perfectly, keeping it fresh with cucumber and mint, heightened with slices of red grapes and candied walnut. This is summer on a plate – highly recommend.
The menu at Henrys Cronulla is modern, fresh and innovative, and served in a comfortable alfresco setting. Our Saturday afternoon drifted by, and topped off by a nice walk along the beach. Definitely a weekend food escape worth checking out.
