The final stop of the Chinatown Taste Food Tour is at Le Mesa which is a Filipino restaurant. Taste Food Tours is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes diversity and cultural harmony with any profits going back into the cultural hubs in Sydney.
As it's the final stop, it seems only fitting that we have dessert although the menu looks really interesting and tempting. I must confess - I have am not an expert when it comes to Filopino food but I definitely have a lot of curiousity.
So firstly, we try the Leche Flan. Our tour leader describes this dish as the Filopino Creme Caramel. It's a heavily sweet dessert dish made from caramelised sugar and evaporated milk. I'm not always a fan of Flan generally however MW is really happy. He's such a dessert fan and LOVES trying new dishes. He happily eats any left overs too.
We also share this Cassava Rice Flour Cake. It's quite a sticky dish that is sweet (not as sweet as the flan though) and you can taste the rice flour textures. This is probably more to my palette. MW also enjoys this dish and again demolishes this dish.
In summary, I've had a great time at the Taste Food Tour. The Chinatown tour is a great array of information about different Asian cuisines. It's a great way to sample many dishes in one night.
