There's a lot of great food in Bankstown. I recently I stumbled across a hidden gem of a cafe called Glacage, which is a Modern Australian Cafe with middle eastern influences. Bankstown is in need of a high calibre cafe. Thanks to the Australian Good Food Guide for the recommendation
The location of Glacage is sort of hidden. You need to walk down the left hand side of a building before you can find Glacage. Once you are there, it's a nice little oasis where you can escape the everyday life of Bankstown.
There's also a number of other drinks that I'd recommend including the Cookies and Cream Shake ($7.90). You can see the visible chunks of oreos on top with the whipped cream. When you actually drink the shake, it's nice and thick with that cookies and cream taste. It's a touch of indulgence on the weekend. If you're in the mood for anything milky, why not try these drinks.
There's the Egyptian Iced Tea ($6.50) which has full ruse buds, hibicus petals and a magenta iced tea. This is quite a sweet and refreshing drink. It's very pretty as well so I'm sure the kiddies would love this. There's also the Citrus Punch ($8.90) which is freshly squeezed juice of pineapple, orange, lemon and mint. It's quite lemon dominant but is really refreshing and a great way to get your fruit intake.
Glacage is probably best for their big breakfast boards. I choose the Middle Eastern Board ($20) which has two eggs your way (I choose poached), grilled haloumi, sujuk (spicy sausage), sauteed mushrooms, labneh with olive oil, kalamata olives, sauteed tomatoes, fresh cucumber with lebanese bread.
The board looks so beautiful. I dig straight into the board, eating the spicy sujuk sausage with some lebanese bread and labneh. Poached eggs are also my favourite. Look at that sexy egg photos below.
For a lighter breakfast, why not try the Acai Breakfast Bowl ($16.90) which has amazonia acai berries, blended with banana, strawberries and coconut water, topped with granola, coconut flakes and seasonal fresh fruit. It's a really well blended acai bowl with the right amount of fruit, crunch from the granola and the blend is well balanced with sweetness and smoothness. Amazing!
For those who have a sweet tooth, I suggest you order the French Toast - Pretty in Pink ($17.50) (or you could share it) which has crunchy brioche french toast, topped with lime infused mascarpone cheese, pecan crumble, toasted coconut flakes, raspberries and organic maple syrup. The hero component of this dish I think is that pecan crumble which adds that delicious crunch along with the other components of the creamy mascarpone and that sweet brioche french toast.
Summary: Overall, I had a really nice experience at Glacage. I really enjoyed all the food and would happily come back. I'd highly recommend all the dishes I tried for different reasons.
I think the Middle Eastern Breakfast board is great variety and perfect for those with a savory preference. The acai bowl is great for those looking for a full fruity and healthy preference and for those who have a sweet tooth, you will have to order the french toast.
