Brrr, It's getting cold these days. Matt and I head out for some pizza before catching up with some friends. We are invited to Good Pizza, a pizzeria in Alexandria.
As I walk in, I notice the big pizza oven in the background. Matt and I sit down and look at the big menu. There's a few menu items that the owner has ordered for us. Firstly, there's the Found Nemo ($22), it's on a plain pizza base with crushed garlic, smoked ocean trout, capers, spanish onion, danish feta and fior di latte. The pizza base is quite light so it's easy to eat. As there's no sauce base, this pizza is all about the toppings with the prominent salty taste from the feta and capers, it almost feels like eating a smoked ocean trout flat bread sandwich.
Also, there's a new pizza called Shepherd ($21) which has slow cooked lamb ragu, fennel and fior di latte. The lamb ragu has the texture and look of a thick paste rather than lamb. Lamb and fennel are a nice match in flavour on that pizza base.
My favourite pizza of the night is the Garden ($18) Vegan pizza. Ironically, Matt agrees with me which is rare. There's a nice medley of winter vegetables on this pizza and it's also cheeseless. There's grilled zucchini and radicchio leaf with cherry tomatoes.
