It's a bright and sunny Sunday afternoon as Matt and I head to Urban Tadka in Terrey Hills. One of my foodie friends has highly recommended this venue so I was looking forward to a lovely lunch. Matt points out the statues outside as we enter into the venue. There's a wedding venue part and there's a normal lunch/dinner area as we enter.
The inside decore of Urban Tadka is beautifully decorated with a home cabin feels mixed in with traditional Indian touches. Groups of people of friends, families and couples start entering the restaurant with cheerful chatter.
To start the meal, I cheers to a lovely glass of Pinot Noir while Matt goes for a refreshing King Fisher. We start the meal with the Papadums and three dips ($10.50).
This is the perfect way to start the meal. There's a creamy beetroot dip (the front pink one), a sweet chilli chutney and also a tomato, onion and cucumber salsa that's served up with a bunch of papadums. The papadums are so moreish and I find myself snacking away and enjoying all the different flavours of the dips with the crispy papadums. It's delicious and very easy to share.
Matt and I decide on a cheeky cocktail with mains, I have a delicious Lychee Martini and Matt goes for a Vodka Strawberry drink. I'm really happy. Next up, Matt and I sample a series of protein entrees which is served up with a specific sauce off the menu including the Tandoori Acari Chooza, Bukni Mirch Ka Malai, Haryali Paneer and the Vegetarian Croquets.
I start with the Vegetarian Croquets which are so delicious. They are slightly crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle with a spiced vegetable filling and is served up with a sweet chutney. I really like it. Matt gets straight into that Haryali Paneer cheese and swiftly moves onto the protein dishes including the chicken Tandoori Acari and the spatchcock of Bukni Mirch Ka Malai where I savour each bite. We're both happy though and would recommend all the entree dishes that we sampled.
The entrees were presented to us on this copper pipe which was a bespoke presentation. You can get this presentation when you order the Maharaja Kebab Platter
I also sample some of the Dukkah Machi Patrani, which are Tandoori grilled Barramundi Fillets that have been marinated of garlic, ginger, lemon, dukkah and garam masala. These parcels of Barramundi were full of flavour and did not need any additional sauces but there were a choice of sauces if you wanted to further build on the natural Barramundi marinate flavours.
Next up, Matt and I sample a delicious range from the main menu. We soak up all the beautiful curries with a range of plain naan, wholemeal roti and fenu gregeek bread. We sample a range of the Dewane E Khaas which is a chicken pan curry that is cooked in a white gravy with green peas, black pepper and star aniseed. Then there's the Dadima Da Daal Meat which is a spin on a traditional grandmother recipe with a combination of Rogan Josh and Daal Tadka dusted with asafoetida. Then there's a fish based curry which was called Machi Kulambu Narial which are Barramundi Fillets cooked with fresh curry leaves, mustard seeds and fenugreek in coconut milk. I also have the Subz Handi which is my favourite which is a Vegetarian Curry which has fresh farm vegetables in a tomato, tumeric and fresh coriander sauce. The curries were so hearty and delicious, perfectly soaked up with the rice and the bread.

If you love Indian desserts, you'll be pleased to know there are five to choose from. Matt and I are lucky to get a sample of everything which was good way to taste. My favourite were the semolina dumplings that were served up in a sweet syrup of honey, sugar, rose water and cardamon syrup. Matt's favourite is the passionfruit fruit tart. He also quickly slurps up the Mango pudding and also within seconds also slurps up the creamy milk and pistachio shot.
The dessert were presented to us via this platter which was a bespoke presentation.
I would suggest booking if you are looking to go on a Friday or Saturday night.
