For something a bit different, I check out one of the Taste Food Tours where you get to check out Sydney's hidden gems full of diversity, tasty food and variety. On this particular occasion, I sign MW and I up on the Global Explorer tour.
The Global Explorer Trip from Taste Food Tours contains world food from Asia, South America and the Middle East. The 3 hour walking tour starts off at 10:30am in Fairfield, a suburb in Sydney's west.
Fabian, our tour leader greets us and I'm immediately impressed with his multi-lingual skills showing off some Swedish and then later showing us some Mandarin and Vietnamese. Fabian is also from a South American background which makes things more impressive.
We start the tour and walk to the Tasic Hot Burek which has a big sign at the front saying "The Best Burek". It's a little shop with lots of baked filled pastries. The Burek looks like a big chunky pastry pie. Our first taste though is a strudel.
The Strudel is freshly made and we have the choice of apple strudel or sour cherry. I opt for the sour cherry strudel which has a healthy sprinkle of icing sugar on top. It's a sweet treat to kick off the tour.
Next up is a savoury treat at popular hole in the wall bakery. Al-baghdady Bakery attracts lots of locals and has an array of baked treats. This Iraqi bakery has a giant oven and cooks an array of bread, baked goods and for $5 and bring your own fish - they can bake your fish.
I get to sample an array of freshly made bread which is heavenly. I love bread and carbs! Each person in the tour also took away a small bread for keeps. There's about 15 people in our group and everyone is chatting away about all things food. That's the first two stops so far. We start walking towards the next stop.
Stay tuned for part two....
Weekend Food Escapes was a participate of the Taste Food Tours as a guest. All words, opinions and photos are my own.
This is real nice. This is what any city is about. Tasting the foods of all the various ethnicitiies that comprise the local population. I live for ethnic food! Keep doing your thing :)
