It's date night for Matt and I. On this particular night we head to Borrusos in Crows Nest which is a new Italian restaurant for the area. Borrusos also has an established restaurant which has been in North Bridge for some time.
I've been on a bit of a health kick in 2019 and have been counting all my calories in an effort to be more healthy and to lose some weight. I've made some progress so far but I am finding that I can still eat delicious carby meals in moderation. I am looking forward to my meal at Borrusos!
Borrusos has seating inside and outside. I personally love sitting outside in Crows Nest to people watch and the odd dog as well. Matt settles down to a tasty Italian beer while I go for a prosecco. Matt and I have been together for some time and we've developed a nice variety of menu favourites at Italian restaurants.
Borrusos has a nice variety in their menu and while I am tempted by so many things - Matt and I agree to our usual - one pasta - one pizza and a salad (sometimes). They have a plant based menu too so if you're vegetarian then there are some nice options too.
Matt gets to choose the pizza and ops for the Toscana Pizza ($22.90) which has chicken, spinach, mushroom, basil, roasted red peppers and feta. The pizza base is thin and crispy and holds a lot of toppings. There's a generous amount of cheese which brings all the other toppings together.
Borrusos also has a few salads to choose from but I go for my fave Rocket and Parmesan $13.90 which has rocket, pear, pine nuts, with balsamic and olive oil dressing. The salad brings a nice balance in my stomach. I've really enjoyed all the carbs and notice how pretty everything looks on my plate. I did eat more than this plate but... the first plate looks pretty!
I've got enough room for dessert but I know it will be Matt who will mostly be eating the dessert. Borrusos has quite a few dessert options. I see Matt's eyes light up. I choose the special which is the Caramel Cheesecake (plant based). Matt goes for the Malva Pudding which is a South African marvel - it's light, fluffy sponge drenched in a delicate syrup with soft vanilla ice cream. Matt is enticed by the exotic South African description on the menu but ultimately I sense that it's a really nice cake and he was hoping for something more exotic. I really enjoyed the caramel cheesecake which is made from a coconut milk.
