Niko's Kitchen, Dulwich Hill

My food fantasies have come to fruition when Matt and I visit Niko's Kitchen in Dulwich Hill. Niko's Kitchen is located right next to the Dulwich Hill Train Station and is famous for their burgers, gyros and their vegan menu. I was a bit surprised about their vegan menu to be honest but curious at the same time.

I speak to Niko and he tells me  that he's previously run another venue in Kingsgrove. Matt points out to me that we've been to that venue before and he vividly remembers the pork belly gyros with baklava which is also on Niko's venue at Dulwich Hill.  In addition to the vegan menu, I also notice other guilty pleasures such as avocado fries and haloumi fries.  I succumb to my cravings and order the Haloumi Fries ($7 for 8 pcs) which are lightly crumbed and have that salty flavours.

Curiousity has also gotten the better of me and I order a Vegetarian Burger ($10) which has a veggie pattie, baby spinach, fried tofu, fried mushroom and tomato relish. My tastebuds are very excited. Even Matt who loves meat says this burger is delicious and he'd order it. The mix of flavours from the mushroom, veggie pattie and tomato relish just go perfectly together and the texture of the fried tofu just further adds to the burger. I highly recommend!!

Matt also has serious interest in the Double Beef Burger ($12.90) which has two beef patties, lettuce, tomato, onion, beetroot, cheese and special sauce. My first thought was that the melted cheese on the beef patties looks soooo good. This burger looks delicious and Matt's only comment is that he would like the meat to be a little bit pink in the middle. Otherwise the burger is delish!

So if I had any more stomach room, I would have ordered a few gyros... as gyros is my weakness. While I am tempted by the fancy pork belly gyros with baklava, the soft shell crab gyro and even the cheeseburger gyro... I decide to go for the traditional lamb gyro ($12). The lamb gyro has meat off the spit served in a warm fluffy pita with sliced tomato, parsley, tzatziki, chips and Niko's mustard mayo. Boy did this gyro hit the spot. The lamb is very filling and satisfying, the pita bread is light, fluffy and very enjoyable to eat and I enjoyed the flavours. I highly recommend.

Summary: Overall, I really enjoyed my meal at Niko's Kitchen. If I was a local, I'd be a regular customer. I'd recommend all the dishes I've had today but that Vegetarian Burger was probably the biggest surprise. I wish I could eat gyros more frequently!
