Font Cafe, Chippendale

On a cold and grizzly day, Matt and I head to the Font Cafe for some brunch. The Font Cafe is a short walk away from the main buzz of Central Park in Chippendale. It's nice and cosy inside.
The Font Cafe has a mix of traditional breakfast dishes but also has a few unique dishes on the menu. I look around at all the paintings on the wall and plants around the cafe.

Matt orders the Sunshine Smoothie ($8) which is made of mango, banana, orange juice, pineapple, yoghurt and ice. It's topped with a slice of orange. The sweet flavours of orange juice dominate and do remind me of summer flavours.

I order the Taro Latte (Hot, $5), which comes out in a beautiful purple colour and is topped up with fairy floss. The fairy floss slowly dissolves into the taro latte for additional sweetness. You can eat the fairy floss separately if you prefer a more moderate sweetness in your taro latte.

First up, I try the My cheesey date which has mashed potato with cheese, salad mix, poached egg, served with croissant ($18). Matt comments on the croissant saying it's a decent croissant however as it's laid bare, he is thinking it needs a spread to complete the croissant. The mash potato is quite thick and smooth. The crispy potato shreads make for textural contrast with the smooth mash. I've never had mash potato with a croissant before and enjoy the experimentation.  I think Matt prefers more traditional combinations.

I also have the Traffic Lights ($17) which is made of Baked sweet potato with napoletana sauce, soy minced meat, creamy mushrooom with egg. The Baked Sweet potato makes for a base for the mince on one and on the other, a creamy mushroom. It's quite clever really. This dish is definitely made for cooler weather. Matt enjoys this dish but I think he prefers traditional breakfast dishes.

Finally, we share the Wiggly Puff ($17) which is a Souffle Pancake (original or cookies and cream), served with seasonal fruit, ice cream, home made sauce. Allow 20 minutes for preparation. This dish is their signature.  The pancake is super soft, pillow like and really enjoyable to eat. I scoop up some of the cookie crumb, eat the chocolate ice cream and dig more into the souffle pancake. It's delicious and one to share.

Summary: In summary, I had a nice time at Font Cafe. Font Cafe has a nice atmosphere with a menu mixed of traditional breakfast dishes mixed in with a few unique dishes. I'd recommend ordering that Wiggly Tuff dessert dish.
