ONYX Grill, Burwood

ONYX Grill in located in Burwood and your go to place for a steak dinner followed up a roof top drink. I head here with some friends for a catch up.

I immediately like the cocktail menu at ONYX Grill because they have cocktails with umeshu (Japanese plum wine) which is so delicious. I had to order the ONYX Spritz.

This is a delayed post but there's special menus each month. I was here for September's $59 per person menu (below) where it's a shared menu if you want to taste everything.

The decore at ONYX Grill is quite lush. I quite like their fancy roof lights, it's very artistic. Very demure. Cheers to the tasty cocktails!

For entree on the ONYX Grill menu is focaccia bread and oil, beef tartare and calamari. The bread is nice and soft, with flavourings of rosemary and oregano.

The beef tartare is traditionally a dish of french origin, made of high quality, premium beef and is well seasoned once you mix the raw egg and sauces. The crackers add some crunch to the dish.

Then there's the warm calamari which is crispy fried, flavoursome on the inside and is accompanied by the mayonnaise sauce.

Next up on the ONYX Grill menu is mains, which consists of the Wagyu Rump with mushroom sauce. ONYX are known for their high quality meats and special woodfired Zesti and Mibrasa oven.

WOWzer, the Wagyu Rump was tasty. I was in dire need of some iron and this dish definitely delivered. The steak was perfectly cooked medium-rare and was so succulent. The mushroom sauce added some creamy flavour, finger licking goodness.

I forgot to take a picture, but the set menu also came with a bowl of fries so the fries also complemented to the Wagyu Rump main.

Other sides to enjoy with the mains included greens, corn and mushrooms. The corn was sweet and lightly paprika flavoured, the mushrooms were so juicy and flavoursome.

The other main was the Salmon, with daikon, capsicum sauce and vegetable stack. The stack was so neatly presented, I almost felt back for demolishing it with my utensils. The salmon is well cooked, flaky salmon pieces fell off and soaked up the delicious sauce.

If I'm honest, I was feeling rather full and not certain I could fit in dessert. However I powered on and decided to try the chocolate mousse which was rich, chocolatey and creamy. The shards of meringue also provided for textural contrast and flavour contrast.

The crème brulee had a thick sugary surface which I love. The gelato was fresh, fruity and mango flavoured. My friends had to do the heavy lifting in dessert as I had eaten so much in entrée and mains.

Summary: Overall, I thought the set menu was great value for such a high quality meal. The staff are absolutely lovely and helpful. My favourite highlights were definitely the Wagyu Rump steak and also I loved the chocolate mousse. The umeshu cocktails were so tasty.

There's also a sexy rooftop bar for more drinks if you desire.
