Mezza Via Italian, Denistone

Work has been absolutely crazy recently and it's these times that make me cherish the weekend even more. So I feel like I'm literally escaping with food on the weekend! Right before I headed up to Brisbane for a work trip, Matt and I settled on date night at our favourite local Italian - Mezze Via in Denistone. 

Mezze Via Italian is not licensed so I ponder buying a bottle of wine but given my tolerance is not great and Matt is driving - we settle on soft drinks instead. That's ok because I have my two other friends, chilli oil and parmesan cheese.

Mezze Via is very busy on a Friday night and we don't have a reservation but we opt to dine very early to ensure we get a table. 

Matt and I always share food and we decide to share a pasta dish and a pizza dish. Matt chooses the penne cabonara.

Sometimes it's the simple things in life... I really enjoy this creamy penne dish which is topped with bacon and spring onion. This dish is incredibly satisfying with the carbs and creamy textures.

I go for the very simple, mushroom and truffle pizza on a white base and is topped with parmesan cheese. The crust is thick and as you get towards the middle, the base is incredibly thin and slightly soggy. I think the pizza needed to be cooked a touch longer as all the toppings started to fall off towards the centre. The flavours are lovely though with a dominant mushroom flavour and a more subtle truffle flavour.

Summary: Matt and I have had another enjoyable experience at Mezze Via. Their food is simple, tasty and satisfying. The pizza wasn't as cooked in the middle as I would have liked but it wouldn't stop me from coming back!!
