Mapo, Newtown

Mapo is an ice creamery located on King St Newtown. It’s New Years Eve and we’ve had 21,000 covid cases today. Mapo is my only outing today as I’ll be celebrating quietly at home. With the current pandemic, I’ve been able to get parking really easily in Newtown.

Mapo is a tiny shop so basically only one customer can enter at a time. The ice cream flavours change frequently which makes for nice variety. On this occasion, I decide to get three flavours in a cup which costs $9.

Mountain Kids Cafe, Chatswood

Mountain Kids Cafe is located on level 4 in Chatswood Westfield and makes for a good casual pitt stop while shopping. While the names of the venue implies it's a kids cafe, the dishes on the menu are definitely for the adults!

Fish and Lemonade, Manly

Fish and Lemonade is located on Manly Wharf and is my first venue that I visited now Sydney is out of lockdown. Hurray!! It's a sunny Saturday and I am looking forward to a dine in experience. When I hear the word lemonade, it makes me think of my childhood.

Piccolo Me, Delivery

I think the pandemic has definitely affected most people mentally and emotionally as the lockdown continues in Sydney. As a little treat, I order a few burgers to be delivered from Piccolo Me. Who can resist a tasty burger?

Manjit’s Home - Gourmet Food at home

Manjit's is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Sydney. You can read about my previous visits here. Manjit's has pivoted during the pandemic and now have a series of gourmet freshly sealed meals that you can purchase from IGA's, service stations and grocery stores. You can search where from this link.

Sydney Lockdown

The Sydney lockdown has been extended a number of times and is likely to be extended again while the vaccination rates are still low and the number of infectious people in the community is still considerable.

I am personally anxious knowing that a number of my family and friends who live in hot spot local government areas and seeing venues pop up in my area.  I can't imagine how essential workers or their families are feeling at the moment.

Stay safe

How are you ?

Juan Montago, Woolloomooloo

By day, the venue is known as John Montagu which operates as a cafe and by night, it is known as Juan Montago. Opening in late 2020, Juan Montago is a South American restaurant with Colombian Latino inspiration. I have previously travelled to South America to Peru, Argentina and Brazil and tasted a range of food from street food to high end dishes so I was eager to see how Juan Montago would compare.

Sushi Taro, Artarmon

Hi Everyone! I've been off the grid enjoying my time with baby Benji which has meant many more meals at home.  So that has meant blogging has taken a backseat in my life.

However I recently was able to have a quick lunch at Sushi Taro. Sushi Taro is located in Artarmon, in the little strip of restaurants leading out of the train station. I come here early on a Saturday morning after craving Japanese food.

Acres Club, Greenacre

Acres Club is located in Greenacre and has been doing Sunday Sessions in March in partnership with Stone and Wood (Mr Weekend Food Escapes loves their beer). There's been a whole lot of action for the kiddies with a jumping castle, playground, face painting and for the adults, an adults only area with games and live music for good vibes. Keep an eye out on their website for upcoming events. I haven't had a drink in about a year so this was where I was going to be reunited with alcohol!

Malaysian Heritage Cuisine Event hosted by Jackie M

I recently attended an event to celebrate Malaysian Heritage Cuisine. The very talented and popular Jackie M hosted the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries of Malaysia (MAFI), in partnership with the Masters of Malaysian Cuisine (MOMC). Jackie M is a renowned chef and founder of Masters of Malaysian Cuisine.

This was my first foodie event since having my baby boy Benji which I have left at home with Mr Weekend Food Escapes. I missed him so much while I was at the event but it was good to socialise and be immersed back into the world of food.

Motto Motto, Macquarie Park

I’ve been to Motto Motto in Macquarie centre a few times but have yet to blog about my experience! Motto Motto is a chain restaurant that is fusion Japanese. Mr Weekend Food Escapes is especially fond of their Hokkaido flavoured soft serve (when the flavour is available).

Japan City, Top Ryde

After spending a lot of time indoors during covid while pregnant and navigating the first few months of mothering a newborn. I decided to venture out for the first time for a meal out at Japan City at Top Ryde.

Japan City is hidden above Coles and is part shop and part restaurant. It seems relatively busy when I walk past. There’s limited Japanese restaurants at Top Ryde. There’s a few small sushi venues in the food court and a sushi train outside which I wasn’t a fan of so I am hoping this will be a good experience. There can be a line outside in peak lunch times on the weekend.

Product review: Pikkant Spreads and Dips

Hello 2021, it's already February!

I was recently sent a sample of Pikkant Spreads and Dips to review. Mr Weekend Food Escapes loves trying new foods out so when we were sent these savoury Pikkant spreads and dips - we wanted to give it a go. In particular, the capsicum hemp caught my eye because I've never had this before.

Happy New Year - What will 2021 bring?

When I was free to roam and walk around Sydney

How is 2021 treating you? 2020 was a crazy year and a very hard one for many. I am pondering what 2021 will bring.. and I have lots of questions swirling in my head.

Will the covid-19 vaccine change some normality back? Will this be the end of covid-19 or will there be on-going outbreaks and on-going restrictions and lock down?

What will this mean for countries who cannot access the vaccine? How will this impact travel, trade and general globalisation? How will the Australian economy fare?

What sort of world will my little Benji grow up in?

What will 2021 bring?
