Meet Mica, Surry Hills

Cafe Meet Mica is located in Surry Hills and is a very popular joint. I'm craving for a nice Asian Fusion brunch and I notice a large young Asian customer base here.
After a short walk from Central Station, I'm here at Meet Mica at 10am this particular Sunday. I'm in luck as there's one table left. The Meet Mica is a small modern venue with a few tables inside and a few outside. As I leave, I can see a small queue forming.

The first dish I order is the Tataki Soumen ($24) which is a cold Japanese noodle dish (Japanese angel hair noodle) with beef tataki, konbu dashi and shiso leaf. The pink sprinkles are sakura salt and there's also seaweed. You are given a container of konbu dashi broth to pour over the dish.  There's also the option to have fully cooked beef as well. Matt loves beef tataki so we stick to the original dish as intended.

I personally love noodles so I really dip the noodle into the konbu dashi broth at the bottom and enjoy with bits of the sakura salt and seaweed. Matt enjoys the most of the rare beef. I really like this dish!

For a smaller breakfast, there's the Banana Toast ($7.50) which is from Luxe Bakery and it's served with a yuzu cream and edible flowers. The yuzu cream is quite light in yuzu flavour so I can only taste mostly cream. The banana bread is quite thin and toasted so it doesn't have the thick cake taste that you typically get. This means the cream is more prominent.

One of the most popular dishes seems to be the Lobster Congee ($28). It's quite timely as the weather is cooler. I've got my big winter coat out. The Lobster Congee is served up with flamed lobster tail, Asian congee, slow cooked egg, katsuabushi crush (dried fermented tuna) and green shallots.  The congee is a rice porridge which is warm and soothing on the palette. This dish is $28 but there's a generous amount of lobster and i'm sure your food feelings will be grateful in this cooler weather if you order this dish. This is my favourite dish of the day.

Meet Mica also has board specials and on this particular day, I also order the Duck Noodle Salad. This really colourful noodle dish has green tea noodles, tomatoes, radish, rocket leaves and thinly sliced cold duck. I slurp up the noodles and enjoy the refreshing salad. This is a good dish if you are looking for some greens in your meal as well.

Summary: For dishes that you typically don't get in a cafe, why not pop by Meet Mica? They also serve up little marionette coffee if that's your fave. I love eating noodles so it was nice to slurp up at brunch time. My favourite dish of the day is the lobster congee.
