Schnitz is a chain which is rapidly expanding across Sydney but I don't quite agree with their rating on Zomato. They are much more popular in Melbourne.
I dropped by the Schnitz eatery in Top Ryde for a quick lunch. I have seen Schnitz in the fancy food court in Bondi and wondered if it was worthwhile trying. The Top Ryde version is part of the outdoor seating they have in the piazza. It's got a laid back vibe and is nicer than the food court in Bondi.
I order the Parmageddon (top photo) sandwich with a side of fries and a drink ($19 for the small meal or $13.50 without chips/drink). The Parmageddon is a schnitz topped with napoli sauce, mozzarella cheese, grilled peppers, mushroom, with herbs. You get a choice of wrap or roll. I choose the roll. It's a nice roll that has been well prepared, the schnitz is tasty and on par with a pub schnitz. The chips are lovely and crunchy. The best part is that they are well seasoned.
For a smaller portion, I suggest you try the mini status quo (above $6.90) which is a chicken schnitz in a smaller bun, with fillings of coleslaw and honey mustard mayo. It's probably the size of a big mac so don't be too deceived by the photo - it's quite filling and I thought this was much tastier than the Parmageddon.
The ratings on Zomato are all between 2.5 and 3. I think it's a decent eatery and think the Zomato rating is harsh. Schitz joins other fancy take away shops such as Mad Mex and Salsas in the food court. Let's see if this really kicks off in Sydney.
Summary: Lisa's Rating:
