Australian Heritage Hotel, Sydney CBD

The Australian Heritage Hotel is an institution. The Australian Heritage Hotel is located in the rocks and is over 100 years old. The venue boasts a range of over 130 craft beers and still maintains original architecture. I thought this was a great venue to take an international guest visiting Sydney.

We grab a table outside and it's a rainy kind of day although it's still warm enough to sit outside. We look at the menu and I encourage Jane, international guest to order the emu and kangaroo pizza ($27 for large). She seems eager to try the dish although coming from China, I'm conscious Australian portions are significantly bigger so we agree to share a few dishes.

The pizza has small pieces of emu and kangaroo so it's not strong in "gamey" kind of meat. The cheese and pizza base is the prominent flavour which means the meat is more subtle in flavour.

We also share the chicken parma ($24), which I feel like is an Aussie pub classic. The crumbed chicken is topped with cheese, ham and a tomato based sauce. This dish comes with a side of fries, salad and gravy. Jane tries gravy for the first time as well in her life. The parma delivers the goods although I wish the gravy was a touch thicker.

As Australia is a very diverse country - we don't really have a clear cuisine to showcase so hopefully I've done my guest justice with beers, eating our national animals on a pizza and a pub classic.

Jane's partner is a picky eater and avoids the emu and kangaroo pizza so he orders his own smaller personal pizza - the chorizo and salami pizza ($19).

Summary: The Australian Heritage Hotel is casual venue for beers and pub food. I can't resist a good chicken parma.
