An Viet, Chatswood

So I've been WFH for about 4 months now and while eateries are open in Sydney. I have still been careful with my social distancing and limiting my time out of the house. Mr Weekend Food Escapes and I decide for a Vietnamese lunch in Chatswood at An Viet. 

An Viet is located just outside of Chatswood Westfield, a short walk from the train station. I'm pleased to see that all the tables are spaced out and are appropriately socially distanced at An Viet. I arrive at a little past 11am and there's already people in the restaurant. The decore is casual and best described as homely.

I have  been thinking about crispy spring rolls for weeks so I knew what I had to order but first I should probably look at the menu. I like the variety on the An Viet menu. It's got a good range of dishes that I would typically like to eat in Vietnamese cuisine.

So of course, I ordered some crispy spring rolls at An Viet. I opt for the vegetarian spring rolls ($11.90 for 5 pieces) as Mr Weekend Food Escapes is allergic to shellfish and there are crab in the meat version. The Spring Rolls are served with a tangy fish sauce (nuoc mam). The texture of the spring rolls are crispy and netted - that nice crunch. It was exactly what I had been craving for and it satisfied my food feelings.

I also decide to order the the Banh Cuon ($12.90) stuffed with pork mince and lettuce, topped with crispy onion and coriander. The Banh Cuon is also served with a tangy fish sauce. I love the texture of banh cuon as it's silky smooth rice noodles that encase the pork mince. The tangy sauce often slides off the silky rice noodles so it can get a bit messy to eat but I enjoy the flavours. I recommend.

I also order a large bowl of raw beef pho (Pho Tai, $16.90). The small option is not available on the day so I am not sure if they have phased out that size. The thai basil already tops the bowl of pho and I add a small dollop of hoi sin sauce for sweetness and sriracha for a hint of spiciness. Pho is one of my favourite dishes because it tastes so delicious but feels so nourishing for the soul. I enjoy the rice noodles in the beef broth and it warms up my body and engages with the senses. The broth is tasty and I would come back for the pho!

As it's approaching 12pm, I notice a small queue outside so I guess it was good that I came a bit earlier.

Summary: Overall I enjoyed my early lunch at An Viet. It's a hearty Vietnamese restaurant in Chatswood. I enjoyed all the dishes I tried on this occasion and would recommend. Mr Weekend Food Escapes and I shared two entrees and one main.
