Royal Oak, Balmain

Today, I want to share my experience at the Royal Oak in Balmain. Mr Weekend Food Escapes wanted a Sunday Roast so we set out to see what the Royal Oak had to offer. 

It's been so cold in the Sydney winter. I hope this warms you up. 

We arrive at the Royal Oak at quarter to 6pm and find the front of the pub with people drinking and getting ready to enjoy the band. It's warm and cosy, full of atmosphere. I end up popping out the front again, later to briefly enjoy the tunes.

We walk towards the back towards the bistro area, we don't have a booking but luckily we are seated in the side area. It's almost full in the bistro area. I can't help but notice the funky modern ceiling that contrasts with the vintage pub looking window.

We order some drinks, I decide on a red blend and Mr orders a beer. What a relaxing way to end the week. 

For mains, Mr W orders the Sunday Roast. That's the reason why we are here - Pork, with crackling and gravy, peas, cauliflower, potatoes, pumpkin and a yorkshire pudding. (From memory, it was about $32). It the hearty mixture of meaty flavours, earthy vegetables and that gravy that pulls it all together.

It hits the spot for Mr W.  His cravings have been satisfied and he's very content with the meal and his beer. What Sunday Bliss. 

I'm not so hungry this Sunday night and not particularly picky about any preference. So I share the Sunday Roast with Mr W and also end up eating some of the kids meal. 

You choose a main, a drink and a scoop of ice cream for $20. We choose Spaghetti, lemonade and chocolate ice cream. There's lots of child friendly options though. There's also crayons where children can draw on the paper top table. What Sunday bliss.

Bliss. Mr W doesn't want to leave without dessert. W junior is eating chocolate ice cream and Mr W orders the Rhubarb Bread and Butter Pudding ($15.50). This is a very handsome looking dessert, looking way more sophisticated than expected.

Mr W devours this Rhubarb Bread and Butter Pudding, pouring the creme anglais, all over and enjoying the scoop of refreshing ice cream. This dessert has rounded the meal very well. The family are happy!

We would come back for another casual dinner for sure. Bliss. See if you can spot the naughty cows in the pub too. 

Summary: Overall, I enjoyed the relaxing Sunday dinner at the Royal Oak. I think best to book a table as we got lucky on this particular night. All the food and service made for an enjoyable experience.
