Happy Sunday! It’s a hot and sunny day and I am looking forward to a relaxing lunch. The Winston has recently been renovated and I’m keen to check it out.
There’s a spacious outside area. I can see a big group having a function of some kind. I am seated in a more quiet area by the fireplace. There’s seating inside too if you want to hide from the elements.
The staff give some suggestions on the menu. So we are off to order at the bistro counter and we are given a table number.
Firstly, we ordered the zucchini flowers. It’s been a while since I’ve ordered zucchini flowers, this dish has the flowers delicately filled with ricotta. The soft flowers encase the smooth ricotta and the honey and parmesan cheese make for an amazing flavour combination. It’s a nice entree to warm up the tastebuds.
On the specials board, there were brisket fingers. Not knowing what to expect, the fingers come out crumbed, on a bed of creamy sauce. There’s a nice crunch, the brisket is within but but it's the taste of the crumb that dominates.
The very popular Sunday Roast is a must order. Mr W loves a Sunday Roast! You have a choice of beef or pork. Pork is a popular choice because of the crunchy crackling. The gravy is silky smooth and flavoursome. The pork is perfectly cooked, the crackling - crunchy and finger licking good. I also tasted the beef off another plate and thought it was perfectly cooked as well. It’s a dish, that tastes so homely and satisfying.
My little one chose the burger and chips off the kids menu. It’s a good portion for little ones and they already knew to bring the tomato sauce. Win!
The kids meal also comes with an ice cream. You can also choose a topping (chocolate, strawberry or caramel) and have the option of sprinkles. My little one chose the chocolate with sprinkles.
I felt like in need of some red meat so I ordered the Sirloin steak which sits on a bed of mash potato, sautéed mushrooms and green beans. I ordered medium as my personal preference. My steak is perfectly cooked so I’m happy. The creamy mash makes for nice contrast against the homely sirloin beef.
The ricotta cheesecake is a dense cake made in New York Cheese cake style which I love! It’s accompanied with vanilla gelato and fairy floss. There’s also a berry compote for a bit of acidic contrast.
The banoffee pie is beautifully presented with banana shards and is drizzled with a tasty caramel sauce. The accompanying ice cream, I think is caramel so the flavours all complement one another. Noms!
Summary: Overall, I enjoyed my relaxing lunch with family and friends at the Winston. It would be a great venue for a function or a few drinks. My favourite dishes were the Sunday Roast and the Banoffee dessert! Everything, overall was so well cooked and looked so pretty too. Check it out!
