Sushi-Ya, Chatswood

I am looking for more awesome Japanese restaurants and decided to head to Chatswood to Sushi-Ya. Matt and I tend to eat dinner quite early so it was quite easy to get a table but Sushi-Ya gets quite busy by the time it's almost 6:30pm.
Sushi-Ya is located just off the main strip of Chatswood Chase. As I enter, I notice the cosy interior and a number of reserved tables. There's quite an extensive menu but I am craving the familiar flavours from my favourite Japanese Restaurants in West Ryde. So I order what I normally order from Tatsuya or Moeru for comparison.

Firstly, there's the udon ($8.90) which has a light broth. The noodles a silky smooth and there's spring onion and seaweed in the broth. It's a nice udon dish however I prefer the Udon at Tatsuya which has a deeper flavoured broth and there's also vegetable tempura which adds another texture.

I also order some gyoza ($8.50) which has been prepared in the traditional way in which the bottom is crispy (although, you can see, some are more crispy than others). The gyoza is nice to eat overall with the minced pork filling and smooth dumpling skin and slightly crispy bottom.

Sushi-Ya also has a few sushi or sashimi options. I opt to order the sushi main ($23). Some of nigiri pieces are thinly cut and narrow. The sushi tastes fresh and is enjoyable to eat. The sushi rolls have one thin slither of salmon and a lot of rice. The sushi boat seaweed skin seems quite loose and narrow compared to most sushi eateries that I've been to.

Overall, while Sushi-Ya delivered a solid and consistent meal, it doesn't compete with my favourite restaurants in West Ryde.
