La Favola, Newtown


I haven't ventured to Newtown for some time. The Australian Good Food Guide recently introduced me to La Favola, a new Italian eatery in Newtown. 
La Favola is located on King St in Newtown. Usually I get public transport into Newtown but on this occasion, Matt drives us in and we get a parking spot straight away. 

I sit down at La Favola and am introduced to the head chef. The head chef is a handsome and young looking gentlemen who takes a lot of pride in delicious food. I order a lemon lime bitters while Matt goes for a Menabrea beer to kick off the meal. 



Matt and I share a number of entrees, first starting with the Carpaccio ($20) which is made from crude meats, parmesan, truffle oil and rocket. There's crispy kale and truffle mayonaise as well. This dish is surprisingly delicious with the crispy textures of the kale, the creamy truffle mayo and parmesan cheese. Matt mostly eats this dish as he likes eating raw meat whereas I prefer meat to be cooked.



I also shared a special which was the Buratta cheese with a pesto centre and it sits on a bed of tomato, croutons and basil. I absolutely enjoyed this buratta as the creamy textures linger on the tongue and the pesto centre. I recommend eating this dish with a side of focaccia bread to soak up those creamy flavours. The tomato, crouton and basil salad is simple but matches perfectly with the buratta. 




I also order another special which is the zucchini gnocchi. The zucchini gnocchi comes out a mild green and the sauce is silky smooth. There's a nice dollap of cream in the middle to cut through the the sauce which is nice. The texture of the gnocchi is the highlight. The gnocchi is soft, light and pillow like. Matt comments on how much he enjoys the texture of the gnocchi which is rare as he's a man of few words.



We enjoy the Paccheri Ragu Napoletano ($22) which has beef, roma tomatoes, red wine, mushrooms and carrot. This ragu dish was so homely and moreish. Matt again surprisingly comments on how he likes the simple menu and he thinks the dishes are simple but really delicious. I'm too busy eating to comment while we eat. 


For dessert, I have the passionfruit tart. The dessert looks like perfection. The meringue is in perfect formation and the actual passionfruit tart is so delicious, with a nice balance of sweet and slightly sour flavours on a solid pastry base. I highly recommend.

Summary: Overall, I enjoy my meal at La Favola. I think the dishes are perfect for sharing. The menu is simple so you can eliminate time in indecisiveness. My favourite dishes were the buratta cheese and the passionfruit tart!
