Dazz and Melle visit Society Pizzeria di Catania on a Saturday night, and by 6:30pm the place is bustling. The pizzeria can fit just 6 tables inside, and there is a queue out the door by 7pm. Get here early if you are hungry!
Society Pizzeria di Catania is a casual and authentic italian food, with homage to Catania, Sicily, and served with a generous pinch of italian fun.
For starters we order the Semplice garlic and mozzarella calzone ($8). The slices softly ooze melted mozzarella and on first bite we develop a satisfying stringy, cheesy bond with the Semplice. Heaven!!
The Caprese salad ($12) of bufala mozzarella, roma tomato and basil is simple, fresh and vibrant on the plate as well as on the palate.
Society Pizzeria Di Catania have 3 pizza sizes; traditional, 0.5m and 1m pizzas. Given we want to try 2 types, our waitress suggests the 0.5m rectangular pizza, which is the same cost and size as selecting 2 traditional round pizzas separately. The pizza board is massive when it arrives, with generous toppings all the way to the edges.
The aroma of truffle oil is from the Marcantonio ($20) is irresistable, and compliments the saltiness from the proscuitto and the lightness of the fior di latte cow’s milk mozzarella.
The other half is the Gamberi ($18), with a generous serve of fresh juicy prawns, tomato and chilli. The prawns have a beautiful sweet broth which together with the tomato makes the pizza slice a tad too moist, thus recommend eating this one with a fork and knife, then mopping up the residual sweet juices with the fluffy crust.
We love the upbeat music, modern decor and fun placemats with italian phrases and matching playful hand gestures for that truly authentic Italian passion. It’s an authentic meal as well as bit of a language lesson.
The Society team were run off their feet with pizza deliveries throughout the night. For a bargain check out Menulog where they offer a generous first customer discount of 25% off!
Summary: Authentic Italian pizza in a fun and casual atmosphere. The pizza toppings were “Buonissimo”, with flavoursome toppings that worked well together. It’s good, very very good!
