House Bar and Bistrot, Potts Point

House Bar and Bistrot in Potts Point is a new European Eatery. The Australian Good Food Guide recommended I stop by and check out this new establishment. A short stroll from Kings Cross Station, House Bar and Bistrot is located among many residential houses.

While it's nice and cosy inside, Matt and I decide to sit outside to enjoy the light breeze that's coming through. Mauro, the owner and head chef, has been in the hospitality industry for 10 years with an Italian background - his philosophy is fresh, seasonal produce combined with traditional Italian cooking techniques. He tells me he personally goes to the market himself and selects the best produce to put on the menu.

So here's the menu when I went but keep in mind; this may change depending on the seasonal produce. There's a vegetarian menu as well.

It's quite a simple menu really but there's enough options there for everyone. Matt orders an Italian Beer whereas I order a Negroni which is delicious.  We order the Pork Belly  on sourdough with white cabbage and seeded mustard ($12) and the Parmiagiano and pumpkin with thyme on sourdough ($12). This is the perfect way to start the meal.

All the bread is made fresh daily on site and that first bite into that pork belly was perfection. Matt's grinning and he's already on his second one as I'm savouring the soft, fatty and flavoursome pork belly. The Pumpkin and cheese starter is also very delicious. It's such a simple combination but it works. It's a great way to open up the taste buds.

Now onto the mains! Matt orders the Sous Vide Sirloin Beef Steak with roast potatoes and onions ($28). What a traditional combination of sirloin steak with mustard, crispy potatoes and those onions. The beef is perfect cooked medium rare and those potatoes really bring the meal together. I taste Matt's dinner and could easily enjoy this main as well. I love those potatoes.

I order the King Prawns with garlic, chilli with tagliolini ($26). This is an incredibly simple dish but with the amazing fresh King Prawns and the freshly hand made pasta - I was in heaven. This dish was incredibly moreish and homely and exactly what I was craving this particular night. I'd highly recommend.

Matt and I also a share a side of Heirloom Tomatoes ($12) which has onions and a balsamic dressing. The little medley of tomatoes are fresh and for me, brings a bit more of a healthy balance to my main.

I'm quite full by this stage so Matt and I share dessert. We share the  Lemon Sorbet ($11). It's tangy, sweet and has a creamy texture all in one. What a great way to finish the meal.

Summary: I love this new venue and highly recommend you check out House Bar and Bistrot. It's the fresh ingredients combined with good cooking that make the simple menu so delicious.

The highlights for me were the pork belly starter and I loved the mains of the sirloin steak and prawn pasta. Enjoy!
