The Eight is located on top of Market City in the middle of Chinatown. Since the pandemic, one of the other major competing Yum Cha houses Marigold has closed down. So I was unsure about the impact on the Eight given we still have high covid numbers and Marigold has closed down.

The Eight, Haymarket
It's been some time since I've been to yum cha but over the years I now know some of the ins and outs of what to do and what not to do. For example, at the Eight in Haymarket, you should get there a bit before 11am on the weekend to ensure you get a table and a head start on the trolleys. After this time, it becomes very challenging to get a table and the food is slower to get around in the trolleys. I can completely relate to some of the reviews about the slower customer service in the peak yum cha hours on the weekend.

Umi Sushi, Haymarket
Japanese is one of my favourite cuisines - I love sashimi and all those Japanese flavours. It's a cold Saturday and I can't wait for some green tea. I head out to Umi Sushi which is located in Haymarket, right near the tram line. Umi Sushi has been recently renovated with a fresh seafood tank, private rooms and extensive menu to choose from.

Hisshou Teppanyaki, Haymarket
I've never experienced Teppanyaki before. Recently, True Local hosted a food safari including a teppanyaki experience at Hisshou Teppanyaki. I was excited. Along with other reviewers of True Local, we are seated around a hot iron plate in Haymarket.
