Maranellos, Maroubra

Maranello's is located in the Maroubra Junction of shops. It's been there for over 10 years so it has it's fair share of revisiting locals.
Matt and I are joined by our foodie friends, Jackie from Does my bomb look big in this and the lovely Jay and Lachie from Eatvenures_. We start chatting away about all things food.
The decore is casual and most people seem to be sitting outside even though it's a bit chilli today.

I decide suddenly that I deserve a glass of wine today at Maranello's. Jackie and Jay join me in a nice bottle of Pinot Noir from Western Australia. I immediately notice the lunch specials which has an options from $13.90 to $16.50 which I think is decent given the options (from a risotto, veal or steak).

I order a few dishes off the Maranello's menu, starting with the Spaghetti Prawns and Scallops Aglio ($24.90) which has olive oil, cherry tomatoes, baby spinach, and a touch of chilli and lots of garlic. This dish has very simple components but it comes together nicely. The garlic really ties in all the flavours and is absorbed with the prawn flavours. This dish is quite reasonably priced too.

Maranello's also has a few salad options but it's the Caprese Salad ($17.90) with the roman tomatoes, boccocini, basil with olive oil and sea salt that catches my eye. I love me some boccocini and find the salad refreshing against all the carbs that I eat on this particular day.

There's also several pizzas to choose from but I opt to try some of the Supreme Pizza ($19.90 or with the lunch special it's $16.50), which has mushrooms, capsicums, onions, ham, cabanossi and olives. The pizza base is quite crunchy and the toppings remind me of my childhood. I prefer the traditional Napoli style type of pizza but can still appreciate the more modern bases from time to time.

My foodie friends prefer the Petata Pizza ($24.90)  as it has sliced baked potato, red onion, sour cream and bacon. The potato soaks up all the other flavours and naturally compliment the bacon flavours along with the sour cream.

Summary: Overall I enjoy the casual meal at Maranellos with my foodie friends. My favourite dish was that Spaghetti Aglio with prawns and scallop. The garlic flavours were really tasty and would be perfect in the winter weather.

I think the menu is reasonably priced and while it's not like the traditional napoli style that I typically prefer, it's still a nice venue for a casual meal after some shopping.

Price: Most dishes are under vary from $13.90 (for lunch) to $28.
