Foodarama, Newtown - Now called Bohemian Star Cafe

I was recently introduced to a cafe called Foodarama which is located in Newtown. Foodarama have recently renovated and are under new management, I was introduced to this cafe by the Australian Good Food Guide.

As I walk into Foodarama, I notice the bright blue walls and little framed pictures. It's reasonably busy as I enter at 11am.

I notice three pages on their menu including their all day breakfast, lunch menu and their vegetarian/vegan menu. But first, to warm up the soul, I order a Chai Latte ($3.5) although I am tempted by the other options of Beetroot Latte, Charcoal Latte and their butterfly pea latte. I've never tried any of these before but decide to focus on my usual. Matt goes for a hot chocolate on this occasion ($4). I enjoy my sweet chai latte.

I order the Avo and Tomato Board ($10.50) which has soy linseed bread with smashed avo, topped with sliced tomato, basil, sumac, painted with a balsamic glaze and a chimichurri sauce. I also top this with a few extras including halloumi (3 pcs $4)  and poached egg (1 egg is $2). This dish has all my favourite components at breakfast time - toast, avo, tomato, egg and halloumi. Matt also enjoys this traditional and simple breakfast.

From the lunch menu, I am tempted by the Steak Submarine ($16.50) which has a juicy steak pieces on a bed of lettuce, fried capsicum, mushrooms, caramelised onion, lettuce and melted mozzarella. I really enjoy this dish as the bread is crusty, the steak is full of flavour and the chips are crunchy. The caramelised onions are soft, slightly sweet and complement the flavours of the steak.  Matt also concurs and says he enjoys this dish.

Out of curiousity, I also order the Vegan Breakfast Board  ($18.50) which has imitation rashes of bacon, 2 imitation poached eggs, mexican styled beans, imitation sausages. grilled tomatoes, mushroom and toast. Matt is very anti-fake meat and reluctant to try this dish however I end up convincing him to try some imitation sausage. He prefers real meat but I remind him that this would be a great option for the vegetarian or vegan population. It's good to have alternate options.

Summary: Overall, I found Foodarama to be a very pleasant cafe. I thought their menu was quite reasonably priced and their owner was quite attentive and nice. My favourite dish of the day is the steak submarine - those flavours were great.

Foodarama are thinking about changing their name so watch this space
