Silly Tart Kitchen, Potts Point

Silly Tart Kitchen is a new venue in Darlinghurst, a short stroll from Kings Cross Station. It's a bruncher's delight with a nice little garden area and a new Spring menu

Matt and I walk into Silly Tart Kitchen and there's a cooler inside area and an outside garden which is brightly lit up and lined with herbs on the back wall.

A bright coloured mimosa starts off Sunday Brunch. I sit back and relax. There's many people coming into the venue. There's a large table next to us celebrating a birthday and it's nice to see laughter and friendship over brunch.

The staff tell me that they had a quiet day yesterday but today they are really busy and jam packed. This means they don't have enough staff today so the food is very slow to come out.

I know it's tough for new venues to properly plan as they don't have an unpredictable flow of customers to properly day to day. After a considerable amount of time, a beautiful dish comes out. MW is hangry by this stage.

The signature at Silly Tart Kitchen are the Fried corn fritters with house cured bacon, avocado, 12 hour tomatoes and house made relish ($16). The bacon and tomatoes are both dehydrated for additional flavour and textural. The fritters are not your typical flat pattie type fritters, they are more like corn fritter balls.  I really like this dish as the combination of the bacon, corn fritters, avocado and house relish are homely and moreish.

For something a bit different, what about the Eggs and Soldiers, poached eggs and pulled pork, basil buds, avocado and chinese donuts ($20). The pulled pork is very satisfying and full of flavour. The chinese donut and poached egg make for a unique combination bringing East and Western influences together at brunch time.

As a side, you may also want to consider the Salt and Vinegar Potato scallops ($12). These adorable little potatoes are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Matt wants a bit more salt on them but I'm happy with the natural potato taste with the creamy sauce.

The highlight of brunch is  the Mother's Pikelets, pepesaya mascarpone, lemon curd, burnt pineapple and pepper ($16). These fluffy pancakes are so moreish and perfectly partner with the mascarpone and lemon curd. You'll want to order a few of these to avoid sharing with your friends or family. This is a must order.

Summary: Silly Tart Kitchen brings a refreshing and modern menu to brunch and lunch time. The food is simply delicious. My favourite dishes were the corn fritters and the Mother's pikelets.

Be patient with new venues as they work out all their teething issues. I came on a particularly unpredictably busy day.
