I have dinner with my gal friend Jenn. We've been friends for a long time and I can't wait to share a meal with good company at Mercardo.
There is discreet signage though Mercardo is just around the corner from Ivy in an alleyway behind george st (near Wynyard Station). We had the whole place to ourselves for a good 5 mins.
We order a bunch of dishes to share. I start with the (top photo) Yellow fin tuna starter. It was delicious. The olive and tuna combo was simple yet full of flavour.
Mercado six month Jamon (i still couldn't pronounce it no matter how many times jenn repeated it) though was light and paired beautifully with the buffalo ricotto and honey.
My favourite - buffalo ricotta cheese with honey and toasted bread (below)
Duck pastilla with a refreshing fig, fennel and feta salad - soooo good! (below)
Generous side of buttery soft carrots with sweet currents and dukkah. I wish i had more tummy space for these. (above)
Wagyu beef rib - 1 gigantic tender rib that was thicker than a steak! Worked really well with the spicy tobasco sauce in the background. (above)
Chocolate cherry tart - we had food envy when we spotted this stunning dessert with beautiful layers of cream, chocolate, tart cherry and a biscuit base - flavours balanced nicely though had waaayyyy too much biscuit base for me. (Below)
Overall, Mercardo is more upmarket and was super exxy so value wise, it's 5/10 though the food was great 8/10. It was $110 per person for this meal.
Check it out if you are looking for a nice dinner but know that you're in for a more upmarket bill.
