Soi 25 Thai Restaurant and Bar, Darlinghurst

Mr Weekend Food Escapes are big fans of Thai food. After reading about new restaurant Sol 25 Thai Restaurant and Bar from one of my fellow foodie friends and their upmarket quality, I was looking forward to a slice of the good life.

Sol 25 Thai Restaurant and Bar is located in Darlinghurst, a short walk from King's Cross Station. The fit out is quite beautiful and there's a huge golden wall to the right.

But first, let's order a drink. Mr Weekend Food Escapes orders a Pandan juice. I for the life of me can not recall ever drinking a Pandan Juice so I steal a cheeky sip and enjoy the refreshment. I order a green tea as I have a slight sore throat but I also find green tea incredibly soothing and warm.

For entree, I order the Hokkaido Seared Chilli Scallops  with fish skin, black caviar and watermelon dressed in a chilli, lime, garlic and coriander sauce. The scallops are incredibly flavoursome and have soaked in that chilli lime sauce and the watermelon makes for a sweet finish. The fish sauce adds a slight crunch texturally. A lot of thought has been put into this dish and it's well executed! Delicious - I recommend this dish.

As the weather warms up, you may also want to try the Green Papaya Salad which has a shredded green papaya tossed with garlic, snake beans, tomato, peanut, chilli, lime, vegan fish sauce and a tamarind palm sugar sauce. The crunchy shredded papaya has a nice amount of spice which is balanced out with the lime. This is a nice side dish to share.

Now for the dish that I have been looking forward to. The Khao Soi. One of my friends spoke about this Khao Soi dish while travelling in Northern Thailand. This dish is rarely seen on most Thai menus so I am eager to order this dish. This dish is best described as a curry coconut noodle soup! The Khao Soi has a really vibrant flavour balanced with the creamy curry sauce, spice from the black sauce, smooth noodles which is topped with fresh onion, crunchy noodles and coriander.  This dish is SO tasty and is incredibly moreish. Take the opportunity to order this dish as it's well executed and rare to find in Sydney. Recommend.

The signature is Massaman Lamb Curry. Mr Weekend Food Escapes' eyes light up. He loves a Massaman Lamb Curry and is excited to hear that this is the signature. The lamb is cooked Sous Vide method and is cooked in a traditional massaman curry and is served with mashed potato and sweet potato. Mr Weekend Food Escapes quickly grabs a lamb cutlet before I can even blink! The lamb has soaked in all those curry flavours and that sauce is vibrant and flavoursome.

Mr Weekend Food Escapes also orders the Grilled Wagyu Beef MBS 7+ which is served with a side salad made of vegetables, chilli, coriander, mint, eschalot in a chilli lime sauce. The wagyu looks amazing! You can always taste the quality in high quality meat. The beef sits so neatly but quickly disappears as Mr Weekend Food Escapes love a wagyu dish.

I am quite full by this stage but that never stops us from ordering dessert. I order the Mango Sticky Rice and Sorbet. We pour the sauce all over the sticky rice and enjoy the fresh mango as well as the mango sorbet. This would have to be one of my favourite Thai desserts. The fresh mango really compliments the sticky rice, it's also hard to resist mango sorbet. Yum.

Summary: Overall, I really enjoyed my meal at Sol 25 Thai Restaurant and Bar. It was absolutely flawless in terms of the quality of food. My favourite dishes were the scallops and that Khao Soi. Mr Weekend Food Escapes had a preference for the signature - the Massamam Lamb and the wagyu.  This is a great venue if you are looking for up-market Thai. There's a nice sophistication coupled with delicious flavours.
