The inaugural South Coast Food and Wine Festival was held at the Berry showgrounds on 15-17 September including a trade day and two days for the general public to enjoy.
I arrive in Berry with my hubby and we head straight to the South Coast Food Festival. There's a long line at 11:30am but it moves relatively quickly and we get through and are handed some plastic wine glasses.
When I first arrive, I see a big stage where there are special showcases all day. I can see a number of people with picnic blankets in front of the stage listening intently.
Matt and I decide to do a lap of all the stands first. We leisurely walk along and enjoy the sunshine. There's a number of amazing regional produce including wineries, cheese makers and gourmet foods.
We sample some delicious local cheeses from Unicorn Cheeses which seems to be a very popular stand. I can see a couple beside me who have a bag ready as they purchase a number of cheeses. Yum!
There's also an opportunity to purchase a sample, glass of wine or bottle of wine. I'm a bit surprised that they are charging for samples but remember it's all in support of the local producers. At most food festivals that I've been to, you generally get a sample free of charge which would encourage sales following.
I stop by one of my favourite locals - Flavours of Shoalhaven - John who is sharing his passion with those at the stand. I get a sneaky sample and listen to his talk. I love his passion and it's incredibly infectious.
Hubby insists on making a stop at the Fired Up BBQ stand so he can buy this Short Rib with a side of coleslaw and tater tots ($27). WOW. The beef short rib is so tender, melt in your mouth and so delicious. The coleslaw makes for refreshing contrast and the tater tots are perfection. Within about 40 minutes, there is a massive line outside of Fired Up BBQ stand.
